Open rhinoplasty involves an incision made on the columella, which is the strip of skin that separates the nostrils. This allows access to cartilage and bone structures beneath.

Open rhinoplasty is more time-consuming than closed rhinoplasty but can have many positive results. It’s worth the extra effort.

Open rhinoplasty recovery times vary depending on individual cases. However, it can often take six weeks for swelling to subside enough to reveal the full result.

It is important to follow post-operative instructions closely in order to facilitate a successful healing process and reduce potential risks or complications associated with nose surgery.

Functional rhinoplasty aims to address underlying issues like malformation or dysfunction, which may cause breathing problems. This type can improve the flow of air through the nasal cavities while also improving an aesthetic appearance.

Under general anaesthesia, functional rhinoplasty involves making incisions within the nostrils to gain access to both sides the septum. The surgeon makes the necessary corrections for optimal air flow in the nasal cavities as well as normal functioning of the internal nose structures.

This type of surgery is not only for restoring function, but can also be used to address cosmetic concerns such as reducing the size of a hump or refining the tip shape. Recovery time for functional rhinoplasties can range from one week to three months, depending on the patient’s age and health prior to surgery.
