Common Ear Surgery Myths & Misconceptions

We’ll look at common myths, and misconceptions regarding ear surgery now that you have seen the before and after pictures.

Even though ear surgery may seem intimidating at first, there is much misinformation out there that makes it seem far more complex than it is. Let’s take a look at some common myths.

Many people also believe that this type surgery will leave visible scars. However, surgeons use advanced techniques to minimize the scarring on areas that are hard to see.

A common misconception is that adults are the only ones who can have this kind of surgery. Children above the age of 5 have usually developed enough cartilage inside their ears for them to safely undergo otoplasty procedures. Therefore, if your children are teased over their protruding earrings, they may benefit from speaking to an expert surgeon.

Many people are concerned that the recovery period will be lengthy or difficult following ear surgery. But the truth of the matter is that many patients are able go home the very same day. Even though some unique cases may call for special measures during recovery, such as refraining from strenuous physical activity, most patients are able to return home the same day.
